Limited and Provisional Ballots + Events for Oct. 28- Nov.3

If you still need to vote in Wilco, go here for dates and locations. Try to get to the polls early but regardless of the time, plan for there to be a line. Remember to bring your valid form of ID! Also, if you are voting straight ticket, be extra sure to review your ballot before submitting it as there have been problems statewide!

Limited and provisional ballots are two voting options you should be aware of. While these options may not be applicable to you now, this might be helpful information to know for the future or for your family or friends. Below are two descriptions.

WHAT IS PROVISIONAL VOTING? The Federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 provides for provisional voting if a voter’s name does not appear on the list of registered voters due to an administrative error. If your name is not on the rolls of registered voters in your precinct, but you believe you are registered, the election judge will attempt to determine if you are registered somewhere in your county. If your registration cannot be found, you may cast a provisional vote by filling out an affidavit and a paper ballot. This ballot is kept separate from the regular ballots, and the case will be reviewed by the provisional voting ballot board. The ballot will be counted only if the voter is determined to be a registered voter in that precinct. Provisional voters will receive a notice in the mail by the tenth day after the local canvass advising them if their provisional ballots were counted and, if they were not counted, the reason why. Also, voters who do not show an acceptable ID and do not sign the reasonable impediment declaration can vote a provisional ballot and have six days to show the required photo ID. (Source: Leauge of Texas Women Voters https://my.lwv.org/sites/default/files/2018_primary_votersguide.pdf

LIMITED BALLOT OPTION: If you have moved to a new county and have not re-registered in the new county by the October 9, 2018 deadline, you may be eligible to vote a limited ballot in your new county. A limited ballot means that you would be allowed to vote on any candidates and measures in common between your former and new county. This procedure is only available during the early voting period at the main early voting polling place; you may NOT vote a limited ballot on election day. You must be a current registered voter in your former county in order to qualify OR you must have been registered in your old county at the time you submitted a voter registration application in your new county if you have done so. If you feel you qualify to vote a limited ballot, we recommend that you contact the office of the Early Voting Clerk in your new county. (Source: Texas Secretary of State https://www.votetexas.gov/mobile/voting/wwwww/faqs.htm)

An important note about voter registration: if you move within your county, you can change your address at any time online here. If you move counties, you MUST re-register for a new voter registration card.
